A Lesser Seen Angel from the Philippines: The Blue-Spotted Angelfish

The Blue-Spotted Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus caeruleopunctatus) is a lesser-seen Pomacanthidae in the trade due its limited range, being endemic to the Philippine Archipelago. It has a slightly muted yellow-brown body which creates an amazing contrast with blue spots covering most of its body and a yellowtail. It grows to a maximum of 8 inches (~20cm) in length. In the wild, it feeds primarily on benthic tunicates and sponges. While not an obligate corallivore it may pick at most sessile cnidaria and other invertebrates such as Tridacnid clams in the home aquarium. For a larger angel, it is relatively docile and compatible with a wide array of other community fish.
