The beautiful Aquacultured Goldflake Maroon clownfish (Premnas biaculeatus) is the most recent addition to our increasing our variety of aquacultured livestock. At first glance many will think this isn't a Goldflake Maroon because it lacks the gold color in its stripes, but rest assured that this isn't the case. The photo here is of a juvenile, which will eventually grow and develop golden stripes. At the moment we have a limited quantity of them. We recommended this fish to hobbyist with experience, for it is an aggressive fish. Exercise caution when combining with additional clownfish or other fish of the same size to their aquarium home. It can pick fights that can end in the death of less dominant tank mates. Goldflake Maroon clownfish have teeth, leading to reports that hobbyists have been bitten by them, so be careful when handling this fish. On average, Premnas biaculeatus females can grow up to 5 inches, while males can grow up to 2 inches. An aquarium tank of 30 gallons is our minimum recommended size to keep a pair of them. Like other aquacultured clownfish, it will easily accept a bulb anemone as it's home. To keep them in optimal health, feed them a variety of meaty and frozen foods.
