Elephant Nose (Mormyid sp.)

The Elephant Nose is a wonderful fish to that can provide a lot of enjoyment as long as hobbyists take in consideration its care and needs. Native to Western Africa, it is a relatively peaceful fish that can live with other fish that are similar in size and temperament. This is a nocturnal active fish, so they prefer dim lights and lots of hiding places in the aquarium. This is an excellent fish for a planted aquarium. Make sure the aquarium has a layer of sandy substrate because they like to scavenge for food hidden in the sand. Also, include plenty of driftwood pieces for it is a timid fish that likes to seek refuge from other tank mates or the aquarium light. To keep it in optimal health feed it a variety of meaty foods.
