Ghost Shrimp (Palaemonetes sp)
We haven't showcased an invert in awhile, so let’s start the week with the Ghost Shrimp. The Ghost Shrimp is very versatile in the freshwater hobby, they are used as a live feed as well as a cleanup crew member. They are not known for eating algae, but will do an excellent job cleaning up the detritus around the tank. Like many freshwater inverts their life span is not very long, but with proper care they help your tank for a couple years. Since this little guy is a tasty snack to some fish, be sure to use caution when choosing tank mates. A group can be added to an community tank, however, be aware that the Ghost Shrimp is known to breed easily, so careful when adding a group of them in a tank for you may end-up with more shrimp than originally thought.
