Ribboned Pipefish (Haliichthys taeniophorus), also called the Ribboned Seadragon though they are not true Seadragons, is found in Western and Northern Australian seas as well as Indonesian waters near the Northern coast. It is the sole member of its genus, and like other Syngnathidae lack scales, instead possessing an exo-skeleton made of hard and external bony plates. They are zooplanktivores feeding on small free floating crustaceans that they find in the sea grass beds that they frequent. Their elegant ribbon like appendages truly give this fish a unique look.
