Green Astreopora Coral
(Astreopora sp.)
Astreopora corals are typically found in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly in shallow to moderately deep waters. They inhabit a variety of reef environments, including reef flats, slopes, drop offs, preferring moderate water flow. Like most corals, Astreopora corals have a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae algae. These algae reside within their tissues and provide the corals with energy through photosynthesis. Therefore, they require strong lighting to support their photosynthetic needs. Astreopora corals can be moderately challenging. They thrive in well-maintained aquariums with stable water parameters. Astreopora corals have a moderate tolerance to copper. However, it is important to maintain stable and appropriate copper levels in the aquarium. Copper-based medications should be used with caution and following proper dosing instructions, taking into consideration the sensitivity of other tank inhabitants. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.
Astreopora Corals are also known as Mound Corals. Rarely ever seen in the aquarium trade. The Astreopora Corals are most commonly seen with shades of cream, browns or grays. Astreopora Corals will vary greatly in size and formation.
