Caulastrea Corals should be added to well established aquariums with moderate water flow and lighting. However, if acclimated slowly Caulastrea Corals can tolerate higher lighting. Generally found near shallow turbid areas where they may be protected from high water flow.. Caulastrea Corals receive the majority of their nutrients from photosynthesis, additional feedings of planktonic foods will benefit their health. Caulastrea Corals do not tolerate copper medications. Caulastrea Corals are great for beginner hobbyists as they are easy to care for and reef safe. However they do have short sweeper tentacles care should be taken when placing the Caulastrea coral in the aquarium as they may sting other corals. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.
Candy Button Corals may also be known as Caulastrea, Trumpet, Torch or Bullseye Corals. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. The Candy Button Corals are generally quite beautiful with a range of green to blue or even a rust red color. Candy Button Corals will vary greatly in size, they are large polyp stony corals that grow like thick branches with fleshy polyps on them.
