Button Coral

(Cynarina lacrymalis)

Cynarina corals are found in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Indian Ocean and are often found in shallow, sandy areas, typically in turbid waters. Cynarina corals contain photosynthetic algae called zooxanthellae, which reside within their tissues. These algae help provide the coral with energy through photosynthesis. However, Cynarina corals also rely on capturing planktonic food particles from the water column using their tentacles. Cynarina corals are generally considered to have low to moderate tolerance to copper-based medications. Care should be taken when using copper treatments in the aquarium, as high levels can be harmful to the coral and other tank inhabitants. It is important to follow proper dosing guidelines and closely monitor the coral's response during treatment. Cynarina corals are considered relatively easy to care for and are suitable for intermediate reef keepers. They prefer low water flow and moderate lighting levels. Stable water parameters, including temperature, salinity, and nutrient levels, are important for their health and growth. Cynarina corals have large, fleshy polyps with a distinctive doughnut-like appearance. In the aquarium, Cynarina corals should be placed in a well-established reef environment. They can be fed a combination of planktonic foods and dissolved organic matter to supplement their nutritional needs. Regular water changes and the maintenance of stable water parameters are important for their well-being. Cynarina corals can grow at a moderate pace, and with proper care, they can develop into large and stunning colonies. Their vibrant colors and unique doughnut-like appearance make them a captivating focal point in reef aquariums. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.

Cynarina Coral are also know as Button, Meat or Doughnut Corals. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. They come in a variety of colors, including shades of red, orange, pink, green, and blue. Some specimens may exhibit fluorescent properties under certain lighting conditions. Cynarina Corals will vary greatly in size.
