Green Duncanopsammia Coral
(Duncanopsammia axifuga)
Duncanopsammia corals are native to the waters of the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and other areas of the Pacific Ocean. They are typically found in shallow reef environments, often on protected or shaded areas of the reef. Like most corals, Duncanopsammia corals have a symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic algae called zooxanthellae. These algae reside within the coral's tissues and provide them with nutrients through photosynthesis. Duncan corals rely on photosynthesis as their primary source of energy. Duncanopsammia corals are considered easy to care for and are suitable for beginners in the reef-keeping hobby. They are known for their hardiness and ability to adapt to different aquarium conditions. They prefer low water flow, low to moderate lighting and require stable water parameters with appropriate temperature, salinity, and nutrient levels. Duncanopsammia corals have moderate tolerance to copper, but it is generally recommended to avoid exposing them to elevated levels of copper or other heavy metals. Copper-based medications or treatments can be toxic to corals and should be used with caution. Duncanopsammia corals are known for their impressive and mesmerizing tentacle movements, especially during feeding. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.
Duncanopsammia Corals are also be known as Whisker or Duncan Corals. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. They generally exhibit greens, purples and tan colors. When properly cared for, they can create a beautiful and unique visual display in a reef aquarium. Duncanopsammia Corals will vary greatly in size and formation.
