Pot of Gold Favia Brain Coral

(Favia sp.)

Favia corals are found in various locations in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and the waters around Indonesia. They typically inhabit shallow reef environments, often attached to rocky substrates or coral rubble. Favia corals have a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae algae, which live within their tissues and provide them with nutrients through photosynthesis. This means that they require moderate to high lighting in the aquarium to support their photosynthetic needs. Favia corals are generally considered to be tolerant of copper levels within a normal range in reef aquariums. However, it's important to monitor and maintain appropriate copper levels, as excessive copper can still be harmful to their health. Favia corals are relatively easy to care for, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced reef aquarium keepers. They are generally hardy and can tolerate a range of water conditions, including fluctuations in temperature and salinity. They prefer moderate water flow and stable water parameters. Favia corals have a distinctive appearance, with large polyps and a brain-like or bumpy texture. Favia corals are known for their slow growth rate, forming compact colonies over time. They can develop unique patterns and coloration, making them visually appealing additions to the aquarium. Favia corals can also reproduce through budding, where new polyps form from the parent coral. Favia corals are generally peaceful and can coexist with a variety of other reef tank inhabitants, including fish, invertebrates, and other coral species. However, it's still important to provide adequate spacing between corals to prevent any aggressive interactions or territorial disputes. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.

Favia Coral may also be known as Brain Corals. Favia Corals are commonly seen in the aquarium trade. They come in a variety of colors, including shades of green, brown, red, and orange. Some species may have fluorescent pigments that glow under certain lighting conditions. Favia Corals will vary greatly in size and formation.
