Neon Yellow/Green Maze Coral

(Platygyra sp.)

Platygyra corals are found in various regions of the Indo-Pacific, including the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Indian Ocean. They typically inhabit shallow reef environments, often found in turbid or sediment-rich waters. Like most corals, Platygyra corals have a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae algae. These algae live within the coral's tissues and provide them with nutrients through photosynthesis. Platygyra corals require moderate light levels in the aquarium to support their photosynthetic needs. However, they will benefit from supplemental feeding. Platygyra corals generally have a moderate tolerance to copper. However, as with any coral, it's important to avoid elevated copper levels in the aquarium, as it can be harmful to the corals and other tank inhabitants. Platygyra corals are considered relatively easy to care for in aquariums. They are hardy and can tolerate a wide range of water conditions, including fluctuations in temperature and salinity. They prefer moderate water flow. Maintaining stable water parameters, including calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels, is important for their growth and well-being. Platygyra corals have distinctive brain-like or maze-like structures, with deep valleys and raised ridges. It's important to note that individual specimens of Platygyra corals may have specific care requirements, and some species within the genus may have different needs. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.

Platygyra Corals are also be known as Maze Brain Corals. Somewhat commonly seen in the aquarium trade. They come in a variety of colors, including shades of brown, green, and sometimes purple or blue. Platygrya Corals will vary greatly in size and formation.
