Fox Coral

(Plerogyra turbida)

Plerogyra corals are found in the Indo-Pacific region, including areas such as the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and other coral reef ecosystems. They are typically found in shallow to moderate depths, attached to substrates such as rocks or the ocean floor. Plerogyra corals have a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae algae, which reside within their tissues and perform photosynthesis. This process allows the corals to gain energy and nutrients from sunlight. While photosynthesis is important for their overall health, Plerogyra corals also require supplemental feeding to meet their nutritional needs. Plerogyra corals are considered relatively easy in terms of care requirements. They prefer moderate lighting and low to moderate water flow in the aquarium. Stable water parameters, including temperature, salinity, and nutrient levels, are important for their well-being. Regular water changes and proper maintenance of equipment are necessary for their overall health and growth. Plerogyra corals generally have a low to moderate tolerance to copper. While they can tolerate small amounts of copper, it is crucial to maintain stable and appropriate copper levels in the aquarium. Copper-based medications should be used with caution and following proper dosing instructions to avoid harming the corals and other tank inhabitants. Plerogyra corals are known for their unique bubble-like structures, which are formed by inflatable tissues called vesicles. These vesicles expand and contract, giving the coral its characteristic appearance. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.

Plerogyra Corals are also known as Bubble, Bladder, Grape or Pearl Corals. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. The bubbles can vary in size and color, ranging from brown and green to shades of pink, purple, and blue. Colony Polyps will vary greatly in size and formation.
