Green/Red Pineapple Brain Coral

(Plesiastrea versipora)

Plesiastrea corals are found in various locations throughout the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and other coral reef systems. They typically inhabit shallow to moderately deep waters, attached to hard substrates like rocks or reef structures. Plesiastrea corals are photosynthetic, hosting symbiotic zooxanthellae algae within their tissues. These algae provide the corals with energy through photosynthesis, helping them grow and thrive. Plesiastrea corals are generally considered to be of moderate care level in aquariums. They require stable water parameters, including appropriate temperature, salinity, and water quality. They thrive in low to moderate lighting conditions and moderate water flow. Maintaining proper calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels is important for their growth and skeletal health. Regular feeding with suitable coral foods or supplements can also help support their nutritional needs. Plesiastrea corals have a relatively low tolerance to copper. It is important to avoid exposing them to copper-based medications or copper-containing materials in the aquarium, as it can be harmful to their health and overall well-being. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.

Plesiastrea Corals may also be known as Pineapple Brain Corals. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. Plesiastrea corals display a variety of colors, including shades of brown, green, and sometimes pink or purple. They have large, fleshy polyps that can expand and contract depending on environmental conditions.
