Red Trachyphyllia Coral

(Trachyphyllia geoffroyi)

Trachyphyllia corals are found in various parts of the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, Australia, and the Indian Ocean. They are typically found in shallow reef environments. Trachyphyllia corals can make a stunning addition to a well-maintained reef aquarium. They are generally hardy and suitable for intermediate-level aquarists. However, as with any coral, it is important to provide appropriate lighting, water flow, and regular feeding to ensure their health and vitality. Trachyphyllia corals have a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae, which are photosynthetic algae. The algae provide the coral with nutrients through photosynthesis. However, Trachyphyllia corals also have the ability to capture and consume small prey, such as zooplankton, using their tentacles. Trachyphyllia corals can be sensitive to elevated copper levels. It is important to avoid using copper-based medications or any copper-containing products in the aquarium, as it can be harmful to these corals. Trachyphyllia corals are considered relatively easy to care for in a well-maintained aquarium. They have moderate care requirements and can adapt well to a range of lighting and water flow conditions. However, they do require stable water parameters, proper nutrient levels, and regular feeding to thrive. Trachyphyllia corals have large, round, or folded polyps that resemble a brain's convoluted surface. Trachyphyllia corals have the ability to expand and contract their fleshy polyps, allowing them to regulate their exposure to light and prey capture. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.

Trachyphyllia Coral may also be known as a Folded Brain or Crater Coral. Trachyphyllia Corals are commonly seen in the aquarium trade. They can exhibit dramatic color changes in response to changes in lighting and water conditions. They come in a variety of colors, including shades of green, brown, and purple. Some specimens may have fluorescent or iridescent pigments, adding to their visual appeal. Trachyphyllia Corals will vary greatly in size and formation.
