Yellow Tube Coral
(Tubastrea sp.)
Tubastrea corals are found in tropical and subtropical regions of the world, particularly in the Indo-Pacific. They are commonly found in areas such as reef slopes and overhangs. Tubastrea corals do not engage in photosynthesis. Instead, they are heterotrophic and primarily feed on small planktonic organisms, such as zooplankton and microorganisms, which they capture using their tentacles. They extend their polyps to filter-feed, capturing small food particles. While some species may tolerate low levels of copper, it is generally advisable to avoid exposing them to elevated copper concentrations as it can be harmful to their health. Tubastrea corals can be considered moderately challenging to care for. They require stable water parameters, excellent water quality, and specific feeding regimes. They prefer low to moderate light levels and require regular feeding with suitable foods, such as finely chopped meaty foods or specialized coral food preparations. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.
Tubastrea Corals are also known as Orange, Rose or Sun Coral. Somewhat commonly seen in the aquarium trade. The Tubastrea Corals are quite beautiful with a range of colors. Most commonly seen with a bright orange or yellow color. Tubastrea Corals will vary greatly in size and formation.
