Green Pipe Organ Coral

(Tubipora musica)

Tubipora Corals should be added to well established aquariums with moderate water flow and moderate to high lighting. Tubipora corals are found in various warm tropical and subtropical waters around the world, including the Indo-Pacific region, the Caribbean, and the Red Sea. They are typically found in shallow reef environments, often attached to hard substrates such as rocks or coral rubble. Unlike many other coral species, Tubipora corals do host symbiotic algae (zooxanthellae) for photosynthesis. They will benefit from capturing planktonic organisms and organic matter from the water column. They extend their polyps to filter-feed, capturing small food particles. While some species may tolerate low levels of copper, it is generally advisable to avoid exposing them to elevated copper concentrations as it can be harmful to their health. The ease of care for Tubipora corals is considered moderately challenging. . They have specific care requirements, including stable water parameters, excellent water quality, and appropriate lighting and flow conditions. They also have delicate tissues that can be easily damaged, requiring careful handling and placement in the aquarium. Tubipora corals will undergo a process called "overgrowth," where they encrust and grow over other corals, rocks, or structures in their environment. This behavior can make them competitive with other corals for space on the reef. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.

Tubipora Corals may also be known as Organ Pipe or Pipe Corals. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. The Tubipora Corals are quite beautiful with a range of colors. However most commonly seen with shades of cream, yellow, tan, white, blue or green. Tubipora Corals will vary greatly in size and formation.
