Christmas Tree Coral
(Sphaerella sp.)
Sphaerella corals are found in tropical and subtropical waters, primarily in the Indo-Pacific region. They can be found in shallow reef environments, typically attached to hard substrates such as rocks or coral rubble. Sphaerella corals are non-photosynthetic and will require regular target feeding for continued good health. Sphaerella corals are generally considered to be of moderate care level in aquariums. They require stable water parameters, low lighting, and moderate to strong water flow. Maintaining appropriate calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels is essential for their growth and skeletal health. Sphaerella corals, like many other coral species, have a low tolerance to copper. It's important to avoid the use of copper-based medications or any copper-containing materials in the aquarium, as they can be harmful to these corals and other marine organisms. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.
Sphaerella Corals may also be known as Christmas Tree, Medusa, Snake Locks or French Tickler Corals. Uncommonly seen in the aquarium trade. The Sphaerella Corals are generally tan or black. Sphaerella Corals will vary greatly in size and formation
