Hairy Mushroom, Aquacultured
(Rhodactis indosinensis on Scleractinia)
Rhodactis Mushroom Corals should be added to well established aquariums with moderate water flow and lighting. Generally found near reef slopes or shallows with higher nutrient levels. Rhodactis Mushroom Corals receive the majority of their nutrients from photosynthesis, additional feedings of planktonic foods will benefit their health. Rhodactis Mushroom Corals do not tolerate copper medications. Rhodactis Mushroom Corals are great for beginner hobbyists as they are easy to care for and propagate as well as being reef safe. Rhodactis Mushroom Corals will spread out and reproduce easily, be sure to allow enough space between other corals. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.
Hairy Mushroom Corals may also be known as Elephant Ear or Hairy Mushrooms. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. The Hairy Mushroom Corals are generally quite beautiful with a range of colors and patterns. Hairy Mushroom Corals will vary greatly in size, when first being added to the aquarium they may appear to be shrivel small mushrooms but once acclimated and healthy will open up.
