Pumping Xenia
(Xenia sp.)
Xenia Polyps should be added to well established aquariums with moderate water flow and lighting. Generally found in the indo-Pacific including the Red Sea, Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Xenia Polyps receive the majority of their nutrients from photosynthesis, additional feedings of planktonic foods will benefit their health. Xenia Polyps do not tolerate copper medications. Xenia Polyps are great for beginner hobbyists as they are easy to care for and propagate as well as being reef safe. Xenia Polyps will spread out and reproduce easily, be sure to allow enough space between other corals. Xenia Polyps are known for their pulsating motion where their polyps rhythmically expand and contract. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.
Xenia Coral may also be known as Pulsing or Pom Pom Corals. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. The Xenia Coral are quite beautiful with a range of browns, tans, white or light blue. Xenia Coral will vary greatly in size, when first being added to the aquarium they may appear to be shriveled but once acclimated and healthy will open up. Xenia Corals will exhibit a pulsing action that is very unique to watch.
