Apolemichthys Angelfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work, caves, cracks and crevices should be provided for grazing and hiding. Apolemichthys Angelfish may pick at sponge, tunicates, benthic organisms or sessile Invertebrates. A diet of meaty and algae based foods along with Angelfish preparations which include sponge should be provided. Care will need to be taken when handling Angelfish as they have cheekspines, avoid using nets when handling. Apolemichthys Angelfish are hermaphroditic meaning they may have both sex organs at some point in their lives. Juvenile Apolemichthys Angelfish may exhibit color or pattern differences. May be territorial towards other Angelfish with the same shape.
The Yellow-ear Angelfish is also known as Xanthotis or Red Sea Angelfish. The Yellow-ear Angelfish is mainly white with a black head, yellow tail and unique yellow spot near the eye looking like an ear. Typically found in the rocky reefs or under overhangs. They can grow to a little over 7".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 125 gallons or larger for this species.
