Bay Blenny
(Hypsoblennius gentiles)
Hypsoblennius Blennies should be added to well established aquariums. Provide plenty of rockwork with caves and crevices to perch, hide or rest when needed. Hypsoblennius Blennies live in empty barnacles and can be territorial and aggressive of their home. Hypsoblennius Blennies may disturb small benthic invertebrates. Provide a diet rich in meaty and algae based foods several times daily. Males and females may have slightly differences. Most Blennies lack or have very small swim bladders. Be sure to provide an aquarium with a tight fitting lid as Blennies may jump.
The Bay Blenny is an overall dark brown color with green and white on their throat and belly. There are brown saddle like marks on the back and sides with white blotches along the middle of their body and a red spot on their dorsal fin. Adult males with have a red band on their throats that is more pronounced during breeding season. Bay Blenny can grow to almost 6".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 70 gallons or larger for this species.
