Filamented Sand Diver Eel Blenny
(Trichonotus setiger)
Trichonotus Blennies are also known as Sand Eel Divers. They get their name by diving into the sand if threatenedd. They should be added to well established aquariums with plenty rock work with caves and a deep sand bed to hide in. Trichonotus Blennies may pick at benthic crustaceans. Provide a varied diet of meaty and algae based foods provided multiple times daily will ensure the Blenny eats well. Most Blennies lack or have very small swim bladders and generally stay on the bottom. Be sure to provide an aquarium with a tight fitting lid as Blennies may jump. Sand Eel Divers thrive in harems of 1 male and a few females however will become aggressive to other males.
The Filamented Sand Diver Eel is also known as the Spotted Sand Diver. Uncommonly seen in the aquarium trade. Filamented Sand Diver Eels are white with brown bars on their sides and small spots on their back that look like saddles and rows of small blue to white spots. Males are larger and will have long filamentous dorsal fin spines. Filamented Sand Diver Eel can grow to almost 9".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 70 gallons or larger for this species.
