Cinnamon Clownfish
(Amphiprion melanopus)
Amphiprion Clownfish should be added to a well established aquarium with plenty of rock work and swimming area. Also known as anemonefish they are hardy, reef safe and easy to care for. They are also one of the most popular marine aquarium inhabitants. Anemonefish create a symbiotic relationship with anemones. Anemonefish are dependent on anemone's for shelter and protection and provide food and cleaning services to the anemone. They can be a bit territorial over their host anemone. Females are larger than the males and are protandrous hermaphrodites, meaning the juveniles mature into males but may reproduce as females later in life. Anemonefish should be fed a diet of meaty and herbivore based foods.
The Cinnamon Clownfish is also known as the Cinnamon or Red & Black Anemonefish. Captive bred can be found more frequently than wild caught in the aquarium trade. Juveniles may have more white vertical stripes than the adults. As the fish matures they will become a dark red with only one white to light blue vertical stripe just behind its eyes. Cinnamon Clownfish can grow to almost 5".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
