Striped Eel Coral Catfish
(Plotosus lineatus)
Plotosus Catfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plotosus Catfish will consume benthic invertebrates, algaes and large adults may consume fish. A diet of meaty based foods should be provided. Care will need to be taken when handling as they are venonmous, avoid handling. Plotosus are found in protected reefs, coastal bays and estuaries however they have been seen in freshwater and brackish areas. Juveniles generally swim in schools, if threatenedd will form a ball with barbels out protecting themselves from predetors. Adults live singly or in small groups.
Striped Eel Catfish are also known as the Eeltail Catfish. Their dorsal, caudal and anal fins are joined together much like eels. Their banded body is an overall brown with cream to white colored horizontal bands. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. These are large fish that can grow to almost 13"
