Sergeant Major Damselfish

Abudefduf Damselfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Damselfish are among some of the most popular fish seen in aquariums. Often some of the first fish added to aquariums due to their hardiness, disease resistant, lively nature and are known to consume most foods offered. A diet rich in meaty and plant based foods including Spirulina should be provided several times daily. Most Damselfish will thrive in small groups and with larger fish that can hold their own as they can become quite territorial.
Sergeant Major are also known as the Sergeant Major Damselfish or the Five Finger. This beautiful and elegant fish has two color phases. The first if the fish is swimming over the light sandy bottom or reef which is known as the light phase and has five black vertical bars on top of a yellow top half of its body and a white lower half. The dark phase will be seen while in caves or dark areas at that point the fish will still have the same stripes but become a dusky color. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. They can grow to almost 9"
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 40 gallons or larger for this species.
