Black Banded Damselfish
(Amblypomacentrus breviceps)
Amblypomacentrus Damselfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work with caves and crevices should be provided for grazing and hiding. Amblypomacentrus Damselfish may pick at benthic invertebrates. A diet of meaty and algae based foods which include Spirulina should be provided several times daily. Groups of juveniles can be added to larger aquariums however, careful consideration will need to be given before adding to the aquarium as Amblypomacentrus Damselfish become more aggressive and territorial to fish of the same genus or size as they mature. Most Amblypomacentrus Damselfish are hard to differentiate between males and females however, males are generally larger. Some Amblypomacentrus Damselfish may also change colors as they mature.
The Black Banded Damselfish is also known as the Black-Banded Demoiselle. As its name suggests this Damselfish has a couple of black bands against a white body, some will have a black spot on its caudal peduncle. Uncommonly seen in the aquarium trade. They can grow to 3".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
