Monarch Damselfish

Dischistodus Damselfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work should be provided for grazing and resting. Dischistodus Damselfish may pick at small benthic crustaceans. Be sure to thoroughly research each species as Dischistodus Damselfish can be very territorial and aggressive. They should only be housed with larger tank mates not easily harrassed. A diet of meaty and algae based foods which includes Spirulina should be provided.
The Monarch Damselfish are also known as the Monarch Dascyllus. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. The Monarch Damselfish are one of the most aggressive of the Damselfish species careful planning and consideration should be taken before adding this fish. Juvenile Monarch Damselfish are mainly tan with two white vertical stripes and a black spot trimmed in yellow to white on its dorsal, as the fish matures their overall body color begins to darken and they lose their stripes. They can grow a little over 7".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 75 gallons or larger for this species.
