Jewel Damselfish
(Microspathodon chrysurus)
Microspathodon Damselfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of boulder type rock work should be provided along with strong water flow. Microspathodon Damselfish are very aggressive careful planning and consideration should be taken before adding fish to aquariums. They should be housed singly and only be housed with larger, intrusive and more aggressive tank mates. A diet of meaty and algae based foods which includes Spirulina should be provided several times daily.
The Jewel Damselfish are also known as the Yellowtail Damselfish. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. The Jewel Damselfish are very attractive fish and juveniles and adults coloration will appear different. The Juveniles are a dark blue with light blue spots and a yellow tail. Adults will become darker, spots will fade but they will retail their yellow tail. They can grow a little over 8".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 200 gallons or larger for this species.
