Johnston Island Damselfish
(Plectroglyphidodon johnstonianus)
Plectroglyphidodon Damselfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work should be provided for resting and establishing their territory. Plectroglyphidodon Damselfish are very aggressive careful planning and consideration should be taken before adding fish to aquariums. They should be housed singly and only be housed with larger, intrusive and more aggressive tank mates. Plectroglyphidodon are aggressive feeders a diet of meaty and algae based foods which includes Spirulina should be provided several times daily. They are not reef safe and may pick at corals and invertebrats. As the fish matures they may begin loosing their vibrant coloration.
The Johnston Island Damselfish are also simply known as the Johnston Damselfish. Not normally seen in the aquarium trade. The Brighteye Damselfish have a yellow tint near their caudal peduncle against a metallic silver body. They can grow to a little over 5".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 50 gallons or larger for this species.
