Oblique Dottyback, Male
(Cypho purpurascens)
Cypho Dottybacks are small, hardy, and easy to feed. Plenty of rock work with cracks, caves and crevices should be provided for hiding. They have been known to eat crustaceans, polychaete worms and plankton. A diet of meaty based foods a should be provided daily. Although Cypho Dottybacks are known to be territorial and aggressive towards other fish they are also quite shy. They should be housed with larger fish that are not easily harrassed.
The Oblique Dottyback are also known simply as Oblique Lined Dottyback. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Males and females will appear differently. Males are an incredibly bright red highlighted by a black eyespot on its dorsal. Female colors will be more subdued with an overall pale yellow color. They can grow to about 3".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
