Spotted Drumfish
(Equetus punctatus)
Drumfish should be added to very large well established aquariums with wide open swim space. Most home aquariums are too small for adult Drumfish. Juveniles can be added to aquariums with other peaceful tank mates however, plans should be made to transfer to very large aquarium when the fish outgrows its aquarium. These timid, shy fish are often difficult to start eating in the aquarium. If not eating try offering live fortified Brine or Glass/Grass shrimp several times daily. If other more aggressive fish reside in the aquarium Drumfish can be out competed for food and may not receive proper nutrition. Juveniles and adults may have slightly color differences.
The Spotted Drumfish are also known as Spotted Ribbonfish. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. Spotted Drumfish are quite unique with juvenile and adult color differences. Juveniles are attractive with their white body and black body stripes with white spots on the dark areas of their dorsal and tail fins. Adults have similar stripes but more of them along with spots and dashes over their dorsal, tail and anal fins. Their dorsal and tail fins become smaller as they mature. They can grow to 10".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 100 gallons or larger for this species.
