Honeycomb Filefish

(Cantherhines pardalis)

Cantherhines Filefish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work with caves, cracks and crevices should be provided for grazing and hiding. Filefish are slow swimmers, an aquarium with low water flow is required. Feed a well balanced diet of marine meaty and algae based foods. Cantherhines Filefish will pick at coral, algae, sponge, mollusks and sea urchins. Filefish are generally shy and secretive and should only be housed with other peaceful fish.

Honeycomb Filefish are also sometimes known as Honeycomb Leatherjacket or Wire Netting Filefish. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Honeycomb Filefish may have different color variations, a dark brown, a mottled gray to brown color or gray with a series of thin irregular shapes. There is also a distinct white spot on the base of the dorsal fin and another on the anal fin. Honeycomb Filefish can grow to almost 10" but more commonly seen around 6"

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 75 gallons or larger for this species.
