Genko Sole Flounder
(Cynoglossus interruptus)
Flounders should be added to large aquariums with a deep wide open sand bed and rocky rubble. They are bottom dwelling fish that will partially bury and camouflage themselves in order to ambush benthic small fish and crustaceans. Juvenile Flounders start out life with an eye on either side of their bodies however, as they mature one eye will migrate so that both eyes will reside on the same side of the body. If the Flounder is blind or has eye damage they will have a great deal of difficulty camouflaging themselves as they are not able to see.
The Gecko Sole is commonly known as the Interruptus Tonguefish or the Barred Tonguefish. The Gecko Sole has a flat, oval-shaped body with a pointed head and a long, slender tail. It has a light brown or sandy coloration with darker, irregularly-shaped markings along its body. Gecko Sole can grow up to 4 inches however are typically smaller in captivity
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
