Naked Sole Flounder

(Gymnachirus nudus)

Flounders should be added to large aquariums with a deep wide open sand bed and rocky rubble. They are bottom dwelling fish that will partially bury and camouflage themselves in order to ambush benthic small fish and crustaceans. Juvenile Flounders start out life with an eye on either side of their bodies however, as they mature one eye will migrate so that both eyes will reside on the same side of the body. If the Flounder is blind or has eye damage they will have a great deal of difficulty camouflaging themselves as they are not able to see.

Naked Sole are also known as the Flabby Sole. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Naked Soles are a white to silver color with black stripes throughout its body, juveniles will however have a dark colored body and fins. Naked Sole can grow to almost 5".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 50 gallons or larger for this species.
