Crested Goby
(Lophogobius cyprinoides)
Lophogobius Gobies should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work, cracks, crevices, caves with a sand bed should be provided for hiding. Lophogobius Gobies are small and fit well in most reef aquariums. Lophogobius Gobies have been seen in marine, brackish and freshwater habitats. A diet of meaty and algae based foods should be provided multiple times daily. Feed adult, fortified Brine shrimp and black worms if having difficulty enticing a feeding response. Lophogobius Gobies tend to be shy and peaceful house with other peaceful tank mates. They prefer to live singly or in pairs as they may become aggressive to other Goby species. Lophogobius Gobies are hermaphrodites meaning they are born females and at some point they may turn into a male. Provide a tight fitting aquarium as Gobies may jump. There are marked color differences between males and females.
Crested Goby are not often seen in the aquarium trade. Males and females may have slightly color differences with males being more colorful and a bit darker. Males and females are both generally a red brown to olive mottled color. Males generally have black and orange spots that can sometimes change to a violet black color during breeding season, while the females generally have pale spots and lines. Crested Goby can grow to almost 4".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
