Blue Hamlet
(Hypoplectrus gemma)
Provide an aquarium with plenty of rockwork, cracks, crevices and caves for hiding as they are a shy fish. Hamlets are not considered reef safe and may pick at other tank mates. Provide a diet of meaty based foods twice a day. Hamlets will eat most prepared foods when first acclimated, if not try feeding enriched live adult Brine, Glass/Grass Shrimp or Black Worms fed twice daily. Hamlets should be housed with other peaceful tank mates that are not large enough to be eaten. House only one Hamlet per aquarium.
Blue Hamlet are somewhat commonly seen in the aquarium trade. Blue Hamlets generally are a blue color with a black trimmed tail. The Blue Hamlets can grow to almost 5".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
