Butter Hamlet
(Hypoplectrus unicolor)
Provide an aquarium with plenty of rockwork, cracks, crevices and caves for hiding as they are a shy fish. Hamlets are not considered reef safe and may pick at other tank mates. Provide a diet of meaty based foods twice a day. Hamlets will eat most prepared foods when first acclimated, if not try feeding enriched live adult Brine, Glass/Grass Shrimp or Black Worms fed twice daily. Hamlets should be housed with other peaceful tank mates that are not large enough to be eaten. House only one Hamlet per aquarium.
Butter Hamlet are also sometimes known as the Yellowtail Hamlet. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Butter Hamlets are a gray, white or yellow color, black daddle, thin blue stripes, two black spots on their nose and yellow pelvic fins and transparent pectoral fins. Butter Hamlet can grow to almost 5".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
