Shy Hamlet
(Hypoplectrus guttavarius)
Provide an aquarium with plenty of rockwork, cracks, crevices and caves for hiding as they are a shy fish. Hamlets are not considered reef safe and may pick at other tank mates. Provide a diet of meaty based foods twice a day. Hamlets will eat most prepared foods when first acclimated, if not try feeding enriched live adult Brine, Glass/Grass Shrimp or Black Worms fed twice daily. Hamlets should be housed with other peaceful tank mates that are not large enough to be eaten. House only one Hamlet per aquarium.
Shy Hamlet are occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. Shy Hamlet have a yellow head and fins with the remaining body being black and a bright blue trimmed black spot on its snout. The Shy Hamlet can grow to a little over 5".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
