Golden Spot Hogfish
(Bodianus perditio)
Add Bodianus Hogfish to aquariums with plenty of stable rock work for hiding, a deep sand bed and lots of swim room. If frightened they may burrow in the sand for protection. Hogfish are voracious eaters so provide a high quality meaty diet multiple times daily. Hogfish can be a bit territorial but do tend to get along with most tank inhabitants. They may pick at small invertebrates and crustaceans. Most Hogfish are hermaphrodites, meaning they are may turn from female to male at some point in their lives.
Golden Spot Hogfish are also sometimes known as the Gold Spot Pigfish. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Juvenile and adult Golden Spot Hogfish may have different coloration. Juveniles are a light brown color with vertical thin white stripes, thick dark colored stripes, tail trimmed in yellow and a white spot on its caudal peduncle. As the fish matures they develop a brown body with tan to yellow spots on their head, vertical pale yellow stripe in the middle of its body and a yellow tail. Golden Hogfish can grow to almost 32".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 500 gallons or larger for this species.
