Longfish Trevally Jack

Carangoides Jacks grow quite large and should only be added to very large aquariums preferably zoos or public aquariums. They are very active, strong fish that will bully other tank mates. Provide wide open swim areas with minimal rockwork. Jacks are often found near sandy, muddy bottom regions. Jacks are schooling predatory fish that feed on sedentary or slow moving crustaceans, and fish. Juveniles are sometimes seen in brackish water. There are marked color differences between juveniles and adults.

Longfish Trevally are also sometimes known as the Longfin Kingfish, Longfin Cavala or Armed Trevally. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. Juvenile and adult colorations will differ slightly. Longfish Trevally overly are a blue to gray color with a white to silver belly. However juveniles are slightly more blue to silver color on the top of their body as well as six dark bars an a black spot on its operculum. Longfish Trevally can grow to almost 12".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 150 gallons or larger for this species.
