Yellow Spotted Trevally Jack
(Carangoides ferdau)
Carangoides Jacks grow quite large and should only be added to very large aquariums preferably zoos or public aquariums. They are very active, strong fish that will bully other tank mates. Provide wide open swim areas with minimal rockwork. Jacks are often found near sandy, muddy bottom regions. Jacks are schooling predatory fish that feed on sedentary or slow moving crustaceans, and fish. Juveniles are sometimes seen in brackish water. There are marked color differences between juveniles and adults.
Blue Trevally are also sometimes known as the Barred or Ferdau's Trevally. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Blue Trevally are generally a blue green to yellow green with a light gray belly, gold spots on their sides, dorsal and anal fins are light yellow green, yellow green caudal fin, white pelvic fins and adults may be seen with dark vertical stripes . Blue Trevally can grow to almost 28".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 250 gallons or larger for this species.
