Giant Trevally Jack

Caranx Jacks grow quite large and should only be added to very large aquariums preferably zoos or public aquariums. They are very active, strong fish that will bully other tank mates. Provide wide open swim areas with minimal rockwork. Jacks are often found near sandy, muddy bottom regions. Jacks are predatory fish that feed on sedentary or slow moving crustaceans, and fish. The Caranx genus of Jacks generally only school for reproductive purposes. Juveniles are sometimes seen in brackish water. There are marked color differences between juveniles and adults.
Giant Trevally are also sometimes known as the Lowly or Barrier Trevally or Giant Kingfish. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Giant Trevally are generally a silver to gray fish however adult males may turn a dusky color to black. Most will have small black dots that may cover its entire body or may be more sparcely covered. Their fins are usually light gray to black but may be yellow if collected from rougher waters. Giant Trevally can grow to almost 67".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 1000 gallons or larger for this species.
