Threadfin Lookdown Jack
(Selene vomer)
Provide a large aquarium with an abundance of open swim rooom. They grow large and can out grow most home aquariums quickly. Careful consideration should be taken before adding to most home aquariums. Threadfin Lookdowns also require a sandy bottom with plenty of live meaty food items available such as crustaceans, crabs, clams and even small benthic fish. Juveniles are generally found in small groups but as they mature will begin to live singly. Marked color differences are seen between juveniles and adults. Lookdowns are very hardy peaceful fish but are not considered reef safe and must be fed at least once daily.
Threadfin Lookdowns are sometimes also known as the Lookdown fish or Bigscale Lookdown. They are occasionally seen in the aquarium trade, but they are not as commonly available as some other species of fish. The Threadfin Lookdown has a distinctive appearance, with a flattened, silver body and a pronounced hump on its forehead. They can grow up to 18 inches in length.
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 180 gallons or larger for this species.
