Double Ended Pipefish
(Trachyrhamphus bicoarctatus)
Pipefish are closely related to Shrimpfish, Seahorses and Dragonets. Pipefish should be added to aquariums with plenty of rockwork, caves, cracks, crevices and ledges large enough to hide in. Trachyrhamphus Pipefish may not eat immediately try feeding live enriched adult Brine Shrimp. Over time they should begin to accept frozen Brine, Mysis and Krill fed at least two times daily. Pipefish are slow swimmers and require slow water movement. Any filtration intakes should be equipped with strainers. They will require peaceful tank mates as they are shy fish.
Double Ended Pipefish are also sometimes known simply as the Bend Stick or Chocolate Pipefish. Uncommonly seen in the aquarium trade. Double Ended Pipefish are quite variable in color ranging from white to yellow, green, brown or even black with tiny spots and light colored saddles. Double Ended Pipefish can grow to slightly more than 15".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 100 gallons or larger for this species.
