Southern Stingray

Dasyatis Stingrays should be added to very large aquariums with wide open swim areas and a good filter system. Stingrays also require a fine sand bed as they may partially bury themselves in the sand, concealing themselves from predators. Stingrays are sensitive to copper, do not treat aquarium with copper products. Provide Stingrays with a diet rich in meaty based foods. They are social among their own species. Ensure a tight fitting lid as Stingrays may jump.
Southern Stingray are also sometimes known as Stingaree or Whip Stingray. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Southern Stingray are generally an olive brown to green gray color with a cream to white colored belly. Southern Stingrays can grow to a little over 80".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 500 gallons or larger for this species.
