Wedgenose Skate
(Dipturus whitleyi)
Dipturus Skates should be added to very large aquariums with wide open swim areas and a good filter system. Skates also require a fine sand bed as they may partially bury themselves in the sand, concealing themselves from predators. Skates may be sensitive to copper, do not treat aquarium with copper products. Provide Skates with a diet rich in meaty based foods. They are social among their own species. Ensure a tight fitting lid as Skates may jump.
Wedgenose Skate are also sometimes known as Whitley's Skate. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Wedgenose Skate generally are gray with small white spots. Wedgenose Skate can grow to almost 67".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 1000 gallons or larger for this species.
