Thornback Guitarfish
(Platyrhinoidis triseriata)
Platyrhinoidis Guitarfish should be added to very large aquariums with wide open swim areas and a good filter system. Guitarfish also require a fine sand bed as they may partially bury themselves in the sand, concealing themselves from predators. Guitarfish may be sensitive to copper, do not treat aquarium with copper products. Provide Guitarfish with a diet rich in meaty based foods. They are social among their own species. Ensure a tight fitting lid as Guitarfish may jump.
Thornback Guitarfish are also sometimes known as the California Thornback. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Thornback Guitarfish are mainly a green gray color to tan or brown with a white belly. Thornback Guitarfish can grow to slightly more than 35".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 300 gallons or larger for this species.
