Electric Stingray

Torpedo Stingrays should be added to very large aquariums with wide open swim areas and a good filter system. Stingrays also require a fine sand bed as they may partially bury themselves in the sand, concealing themselves from predators. Stingrays may be sensitive to copper, do not treat aquarium with copper products. Provide Stingrays with a diet rich in meaty based foods. They are social among their own species. Torpedo Stingrays are tolorant to salinity changes and have been seen in brackish areas. Females have been known to out live males. Torpedo Stingrays can produce electrical discharges with their electric organs paralyzing their prey. Ensure a tight fitting lid as Stingrays may jump.
Electric Stingray are also sometimes known as the Marbled Electric Ray. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Electric Stingray are an overall marbled tan to dark brown color. Electric Stingray can grow to slightly more than 39".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 300 gallons or larger for this species.
