Ambon Scorpionfish

Pteroidichthys Scorpionfish should be added to aquariums with plenty of rockwork, caves, cracks, crevices and ledges for hiding. Provide a deep sandy, silty, rubble substrate, and preferrably with Seaweed. Scorpionfish are highly secretive, bottom dwelling fish that can camouflage themselves while waiting for prey to pass by. Scorpionfish are also slow moving fish requiring low water flow. Most Scorpionfish are highly poisonous care should be taken when placing hands in the aquarium. If cornered they are able to jet forward at a fast speed stinging their attacker. Provide a diet rich in meaty foods 3 to 4 times a week as they have a slow metabolism. When first acclimated they may not accept prepared foods try feeding live enriched adult Brine, Glass/Grass Shrimp or small crabs. Only one Scorpionfish should be added to an aquarium. They should be housed with peaceful fish that are to large to become prey.

Ambon Scorpionfish are also sometimes known as the Godfrey's Scorpionfish. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Ambon Scorpionfish have the ability to change their color quite quickly but are normally a black and red mottled color. Ambon Scorpionfish can grow to slightly over 4".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 50 gallons or larger for this species.
