Half Spined Seahorse
(Hippocampus semispinosus)
Seahorses should be added to aquariums with plenty of rock work and plenty of swim room. Seahorses are slow swimmers, ensure the aquarium is free of anemones. Be sure to adjust waterflow for seahorses as they will require low waterflow. House Seahorses with other peaceful and slow moving tank mates. Seahorses are able to change colors depending on their surroundings. Females will deposit their eggs into the males pouch, approximately 14 days later the male will give birth to tiny little Seahorse replicas. Feed a diet of enriched live juvenile Brine shrimp, frozen mysis and rotifers multiple times daily.
Half Spined Seahorse are not often seen in the aquarium trade. Half Spined Seahorse are seen with varying colors usually depending upon its envirnoment. Half Spined Seahorses have been seen as yellow, brown to red with splashes of white in their trunks. Half Spined Seahorse can grow to a little over 7".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 50 gallons or larger for this species.
